Tourist Seasons

West and South Coasts: The best time to visit is from December to March when the weather is dry and sunny. This period is ideal for beach activities and exploring coastal towns like Colombo, Galle, and Bentota.

East Coast: The best time to visit is from April to September when the weather is dry and the sea is calm. This period is great for enjoying beaches like Arugam Bay, Trincomalee, and Pasikudah.

Hill Country: The best time to visit the hill country, including places like Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Ella, is from December to March and also from June to September. These months typically offer pleasant weather and are ideal for hiking, exploring tea plantations, and enjoying cooler temperatures.

Health and safety

Emergency treatment can be coped with by most of the tourist hotels. Throughout the country, there are government hospitals located in almost all the cities. Well-equipped base hospitals and district hospitals are among the types of hospitals found. In many cities, private hospitals are also present.

Climate & Seasons

Sri Lanka enjoys a tropical climate without extremes of temperature, with averages of 80°F (27°C) in Colombo and its suburbs, rising to as much as 100°F (38°C) in the semi-arid northwest, and cooling off to 61°F (16°C) at higher elevations of the central hill country. The country experiences two monsoon periods, resulting in continuous rains for several months. The climate significantly influences both coastal plains and high mountainous regions. The southwest monsoon affects the southern, western, and central regions from May to July, while the northeast monsoon brings rain to the north and east from November to January. Positioned on the edge of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka benefits from its warm tropical waters, marking it as a pivotal point between the subcontinent and the icy reaches of Antarctica.
